Little Updates: January 2013
Hi everyone, I hope you have had an amazing week. So the first month of 2013 didn't happen the way I wanted it to. At the beginning of the month I start to have stomach pains and felt generally unwell but because there was so many illnesses going around I thought I just picked up one of them but after a week I still didn't feel any better and I started to suspect that I was having the start of a flare up. I left it another couple of days but things didn't improve so I decided to phone the IBD nurse to tell her what was going on, she agreed with what I was thinking and said that she would speak to my GI consultant to see what he wanted to do. So the same afternoon I got a phone call back from the IBD nurse to say that my GI wanted me to start taking prednisolone because it would be the only thing that would start working quickly enough.
To be honest I wasn't really happy about having to take steroids again because there are so many side effects (I am planning to do a blog post on steroids shortly). So I started taking the 40mg dose on the 16th of January and I was okay for the first day but after that the side effects started to kick in really bad. The depression is the worst thing for me you think that because I was on antidepressants that the depression wouldn't be that bad but it was, I hadn't felt that badly depression in a long time.
I have been reducing the steroids by 5mg each week but I really don't think they are working because I still feel pretty rubbish the only thing they seem to being doing is ruining my teeth I have lost two fillings and broke a tooth and I have only been taking them a few weeks.
