What I think of Cincinnati Police
Hi everyone I hope you all had an excellent weekend. I know I pretty late to the party with blog post but I still wanted to write and post it.
Now as lot of you probably know by now the Cincinnati Police Department in the United States of America thought it would be a good idea to use images of people who have been victims of gunshot wounds with colostomy bags to deter teenagers from becoming involved with gun crime.
Now as fellow ostomate myself I was appalled when I read this article, especially when I read this statement from Lt. Joe Richardson.
Yes I understand that something needs to be done about gun crime but this article is very insulting to someone who has a colostomy, an ileostomy or even a urostomy and no ostomate should ever be made to feel like they are ugly or disgusting, that is just plain nasty. We should be building a positive attitude towards ostomies, especially a positive body image. People like myself work so hard to try and reduce the stigma that is attached to things like IBD and ostomies but it is really difficult to break this stigma when they are used in this way.
Sorry everyone if this post was a bit of a ramble but I just wrote down what came straight into my head. I hope you all have a good Monday and until the next time...

"You're not killed, but you're walking around with a colostomy bag and that's just not the way to get a girl's attention by limping down Warsaw Avenue with a colostomy bag,”
