What happened at my GI appointment 07/08/2013

Hi everyone, I hope you have all had a good day or are having a good day depending on which part of the world you live. Now I know this blog post should have technically gone up before my food wishlist seeing as the clinic appointment was on Wednesday but you know me by now I don't like to follow the rules. So now lets get onto the information overload that I got at the clinic appointment.

Honestly I didn't want to go to the clinic because I really don't like my GI and someone who never makes eye contact with you when you speak to them doesn't give me a lot of confidence. So at the appointment I finally got the results of the small bowel MRI that I had done in June, well I think it was June, I can't really remember now. The results showed some active disease but not as much that was originally thought so that was a positive thing but then I got told a few bad things. There was 3 negative things that came from the result, No 1 was my small bowel has gone down into my pelvis but that is not unheard of when you have had the large bowel removed, No 2 is I have adhesion's which again that is not an uncommon thing to have when you have had surgery on the bowel and No 3 was that I have a fistula from the small bowel to cervix. Despite having Crohn's for nearly 14 years I was still shocked by the results don't ask me how because I know by now that this silly disease is very complicated and anything can happen.

The best treatment for the fistula is humria or Adalimumab injections as my consultant likes to call them plus there is a possibility that the injections could work on the Crohn's that I have in my oesophagus but because oesophageal Crohn's is rare there isn't a lot of evidence on how successful it would be.

Another couple of things that happened at the clinic appointment were that after having this oesophageal stricture for nearly 5 years I am finally getting to see an Upper GI surgeon, woohoo. As much as I really don't want to have another surgery and it's not definite that I am going to be getting surgery anyway I still want to hear a surgeons opinion and the final thing is I will be going back to see the surgeon that did my bowel operation to see if she will finally fix 5 year old surgical wound.

So that is  basically everything that happened at my clinic appointment last week, I amsuppose to be going back to clinic in September but clinics here are so under staffed at the moment so I will be very lucky to get one. Until my next post....
