The Hospital Food Survey done by For Crohn's
Hi everyone, I hope you are all having a good day. Today I am going to be doing a post on The Hospital Food Survey done by the charity For Crohn's.
As you all know World IBD day was on Sunday the 19th of May and to celebrate the day For Crohn's released their findings of there new survey on Hospital Food.

The aim of this survey was to find out what people with IBD thought about hospital food. 47% thought their recovery when in hospital was delayed or restricted because of the poor food that was served to them, 57% of them thought that the food was awful or poor and four fifths of patients had to rely on people to bring food into them. I have to strongly agree with those patients who thought that the food restricted there recovery, I have also had to rely on my family to take in food for me and frankly the food does taste awful.
Due to having crohn's, an ileostomy and a crohn's oesophageal stricture my diet is very limited, the stricture is the main cause for my limited diet. When you have a narrowed oesophagus and you are in hospital there is basically no soft food on the menu for you to eat. The only things that I eat from the hospital menu is porridge, (which normally tastes of cardboard) beef mince with potatoes and a slice of corned beef with potatoes. They do serve fish which is classed as soft food but I am unable to eat any type of fish because it gives me a very upset stomach and makes me feel sick, also on the menu is macaroni cheese which is also classed as soft food but it is so stodgy it always gets stuck and I have to bring it back up again.
I seriously think that the NHS needs to sort out the food that they serve, it is not surprising that a lot of patients have a delayed recovery because how are they suppose to get better without the proper nutrition.
Very well done to For Crohn's for doing this survey and I really hope that one day the standard of hospital food will be much better.
