My Crohn's in 2011

Hi everyone and a Happy New Year. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday, and got everything that you wished for. Today's blog is about how my Crohn's was in 2011.

2011 was one of the best years I have had in 5 years apart from the small hiccup that I had in April which really set me back.

In April I went into hospital to have a biodegradable stent put into my oesophagus as I have an oesophageal stricture which was getting worse. I have had an oesophageal stricture for the past 2 years and at first it wasn't that bad, my food would stick but it would still go down but the stricture became so bad that every time that I had oesophageal dilation done I would only be able to eat for a week before I started to have problems swallowing. So the decision was made at the beginning of the year that I would have this newly licensed biodegradable stent and it was probably one of the worse decisions I had ever made.

I went into the hospital in April and I was only suppose to spend four days but I ended up spending nearly two weeks in hospital. Things started going wrong as soon as I had woke up from the general anaesthetic, I was absolutely frozen and couldn't stop shivering but I thought it was just the anaesthetic but I was so wrong, within an hour I was being violently sick and had a high temperature. I ended up being violently sick for one week and I lost a stone in weight but the worse thing was that nobody knew what was wrong with me. Thankfully after a week the sickness wasn't as bad and I got discharged from hospital but the first night I was at home I started being sick again and three days later I had to get an Ambulance to take me to A&E, I then had to spend another five days in hospital. The hope was that the biodegradable stent would keep my oesophagus open but as soon as it started to dissolve my oesophagus started to narrow so I was back to square one.

In August this year I had a biopsy taken from my oesophagus and the results showed that I had Crohn's in my oesophagus, I am currently waiting to start Humeria injections and the hope is that the Humeria will help settle the Crohn's and my oesophageal stricture will stay open.
